Na cidade de Jaboat\u00e3o fomos at\u00e9 a empresa Carrocerias Progresso, onde conhecemos um pouco da hist\u00f3ria da empresa, h\u00e1 65 anos no mercado, e originalmente fundada na cidade de Gravat\u00e1. O funcion\u00e1rio entrevistado – Seu Fred – nos conta que os primeiros caminh\u00f5es produzidos s\u00f3 possu\u00edam pintura lisa, e que somente por volta da d\u00e9cada de 1960 \u00e9 que come\u00e7aram a ser feitas as primeiras ornamenta\u00e7\u00f5es nas carrocerias dos caminh\u00f5es. As primeiras pinturas eram elaboradas a m\u00e3o livre por meio de um instrumento denominado \u2018carretilha\u2019 (ou filetador) que consiste numa esp\u00e9cie de pincel com uma moeda em sua ponta.<\/p>\n

Atualmente este sistema foi abandonado e a Progresso passou a utilizar \u2018f\u00f4rmas\u2019 – placas vazadas de alum\u00ednio como um est\u00eancil – como padr\u00e3o para a pintura de todas as carrocerias. A empresa conta apenas com um \u00fanico modelo de desenho para estampar os pain\u00e9is, composto pela combina\u00e7\u00e3o de 03 matrizes de cores diferentes. As matrizes ainda possuem varia\u00e7\u00f5es de 02 tamanhos que s\u00e3o aplicadas de acordo com o porte do caminh\u00e3o. O desenho, por\u00e9m, \u00e9 o mesmo e Fred nos conta que foi \u2018copiado\u2019 dos desenhos da empresa de Carrocerias Lages de Santa Catarina. Em alguns casos \u00e9 aplicada apenas uma das matrizes monocrom\u00e1ticas para ornamentar as carrocerias de forma mais simples.<\/p>\n
Em visita ao galp\u00e3o tivemos a oportunidade de conversar tamb\u00e9m com Elionaldo, pintor de carrocerias. O processo inicia-se com a pintura de toda a carroceria com pistola, incluindo as taliscas – \u2018ou cearenses\u2019 – de dentro e de fora, e a caixa de roda – madeira sobre a roda como um paralama. Os frisos em baixo relevo das taliscas s\u00e3o coloridos com um pincel chato. Os pain\u00e9is laterais e o logotipo da empresa s\u00e3o pintados com a f\u00f4rma e a pistola. As lameiras de madeira s\u00e3o demarcadas com fita e pintadas no pincel.<\/p>\n
Uma informa\u00e7\u00e3o importante descoberta foi que a Carroceria Progresso – e provavelmente as outras empresas do ramo – pintam apenas a pintura lisa de todo ve\u00edculo e os ornamentos dos pain\u00e9is laterais e lameiras de madeira. Outros elementos gr\u00e1ficos que comp\u00f5em as carrocerias como o n\u00famero da placa do caminh\u00e3o, frases grafadas nas carrocerias e frases e ilustra\u00e7\u00f5es presentes em lameiras emborrachadas s\u00e3o desenvolvidas por pintores letristas, geralmente encontrados em postos de combust\u00edvel nas BRs.<\/p>\n

In the city of Jaboat\u00e3o dos Guararapes we visited Carrocerias Progresso.<\/div>\nIn the city of Jaboat\u00e3o, we visited the company Carrocerias Progress, where we discovered some of the company\u2019s history. It has been working in this particular field for 65 years, and was originally founded in the town of Gravat\u00e1. The employee we interviewed – Seu Fred \u2013 informed us that originally, trucks were just painted one flat colour, and it was only during the 1960s that the first decorations began to appear. The first paintings were drawn freehand by using an instrument called a ‘tracing wheel’, which is a kind of \u2018brush\u2019 but with a small disc at its tip.<\/p>\n

Currently, this system has been abandoned and Progresso has started using ‘molds’ – cast aluminum plates much like a stencil \u2013 as the pattern for painting all truck bodies. The company only has one design model for painting the panels, composed of 3 matrices of different colours. The models come in 2 sizes, and are applied according to the size of the truck. The design, however, is the same and Fred informed us that it was ‘copied’ from designs by a company in the state of Santa Catarina, called Carrocerias Lages. In some cases, a monochromatic matrix is used to decorate the body in a simpler manner.<\/p>\n
While visiting the workshop, we also had the opportunity of talking to Elionaldo, one of the body painters. The process begins by painting the entire body with a spray gun, including the cleats – ‘sometimes called cearenses’ – inside and out, and the wheel box \u2013 the wooden mud flaps on the wheels. The bas-relief friezes of the cleats are colored with a flat brush. The side panels and the company logo are painted with the mold and spray gun. The wooden mud flaps are taped over and then painted with a brush.<\/p>\n
One important finding was that Carroceria Progresso – and probably also other companies in the field \u2013 only take on the painting of the entire vehicle with one flat colour, and the artwork on the side panels and the wooden mud flaps. Any other graphic elements that make up the bodywork, such as the vehicle license plate, written phrases on the bodywork and phrases and illustrations on the rubber mud flaps are undertaken by signwriters, often encountered at filling stations along the main highways. <\/p>\n
