Nos deslocamos at\u00e9 o agreste de Pernambuco para visitar a Carroceria S\u00e3o Carlos, situada no Distrito Industrial de Caruaru, uma tradicional empresa de car\u00e1ter familiar, h\u00e1 anos no mercado, cuja matriz foi fundada na cidade de Senhor do Bonfim na Bahia. Hoje, al\u00e9m da matriz, h\u00e1 3 filiais em Itabaiana-SE, Arapiraca-AL e Caruaru-PE. A unidade de Caruaru funciona desde outubro de 2007.<\/p>\n
O espa\u00e7o – um terreno amplo com estrutura bem organizada – possui tr\u00eas \u00e1reas principais: o galp\u00e3o da fabrica\u00e7\u00e3o, dividido nos setores de serralharia e pintura e o p\u00e1tio externo onde ficam as carrocerias finalizadas ou ainda por fazer reforma.<\/p>\n
Durante os registros observamos que algumas carrocerias produzidas pela S\u00e3o Carlos, possuem grafismos apenas em est\u00eancil, outras em est\u00eancil e pintura manual. O pintor Rob\u00e9rio \u2013 h\u00e1 mais de 30 anos trabalhando no ramo – \u00e9 especialista na elabora\u00e7\u00e3o de desenhos de forma manual, por meio do uso do pincel. Este tem cerdas longas e ponta redonda e \u00e9 feito de pelo de camelo. Os dedos do pintor tamb\u00e9m podem ser utilizados para imprimir pequenos c\u00edrculos na estampa. A tinta utilizada \u00e9 o esmalte sint\u00e9tico. No processo de pintura dos grafismos n\u00e3o \u00e9 realizado nenhum esbo\u00e7o preliminar, o pintor simplesmente vai preenchendo os m\u00f3dulos da carroceria de forma intuitiva.<\/p>\n

Em parceria com Rob\u00e9rio trabalham outros integrantes da equipe respons\u00e1veis pela pintura em est\u00eancil que figura nos m\u00f3dulos principais da carroceria – aqueles com \u00e1rea maior e assim com maior destaque visual. Dois funcion\u00e1rios v\u00e3o aplicando progressivamente a pintura de est\u00eancil em toda carroceria, um segura o molde e o outro pinta o motivo utilizando uma pistola. Esta foi a \u00fanica empresa em que registramos o uso, num mesmo desenho, das t\u00e9cnicas de pintura manual e em est\u00eancil simultaneamente.<\/p>\n
Circulando pelo ambiente encontramos um painel onde est\u00e3o estampadas todos os modelos de desenhos utilizados na empresa atualmente – cerca de 6 motivos diferentes. Abaixo deste painel fica uma bancada onde s\u00e3o armazenadas todas as matrizes de impress\u00e3o de cada motivo, estes geralmente impressos em 3 cores distintas.<\/p>\n
Em entrevista com Rob\u00e9rio, ele nos relatou que a c\u00f3pia de desenhos entre empresas \u00e9 uma pr\u00e1tica comum no ramo e que n\u00e3o gera conflitos. Alguns desenhos da pr\u00f3pria S\u00e3o Carlos j\u00e1 foram copiados e adaptados de outras empresas, outros s\u00e3o cria\u00e7\u00e3o pr\u00f3pria. O pintor tamb\u00e9m refor\u00e7ou a quest\u00e3o desta pr\u00e1tica estar a caminho da extin\u00e7\u00e3o, bem como do profissional respons\u00e1vel pelo corte das f\u00f4rmas.<\/p>\n
Por fim, observamos que na empresa s\u00e3o pintadas apenas a carroceria do caminh\u00e3o e as lameiras de madeira que tamb\u00e9m a comp\u00f5em. Outros elementos como frases de carroceria, placa do ve\u00edculo e pintura de lameiras e lameir\u00f5es emborrachados s\u00e3o realizados por outro pintor letrista externo.<\/p>\n

This is a traditional family business, which has existed for many years, and was originally founded in the city of Senhor do Bonfim in the state of Bahia. Today, as well as the original workshop, there are now 3 branches in Itabaiana-SE, Arapiraca-AL and Caruaru-PE. The branch in Caruaru has been in operation since October 2007.
\nThe space – a large terrain with a well-organized structure – has three main areas: the manufacturing shed, divided into sections for joinery and painting and an outdoor patio where the bodies are finalized or await refurbishment.
\nWhile registering these examples, we observed that the graphics on some of the truck bodies produced by S\u00e3o Carlos were only produced in stencil while some were stenciled and hand painted. The painter Rob\u00e9rio \u2013 who has over 30 years\u2019 experience in this field – specializes in hand-painted artwork with the use of a brush. The brush has long bristles, with a round point and is made of camel hair. The painter’s fingers may also be used to produce small circles in the design. He uses synthetic enamel paint. In the process of painting the graphics, no preliminary sketches are produced. Rob\u00e9rio works in partnership with other members of the team, who are responsible for the stenciling, which appears on the main sections of the truck; those that cover larger areas and therefore have greater visual prominence. Two team members progressively stencil the entire body. One holds the stencil in place while the other paints the motif using a spray gun. This was the only company we came across that combines techniques of hand painting and stenciling in the same design.
\nHere we discovered a panel that contained all the design motifs currently undertaken by the company \u2013 around 6 different motifs. Underneath this panel there is a workbench where all the design patterns are kept, generally painted in 3 different colours.
\nIn an interview with Rob\u00e9rio, he explained that it is common practice amongst companies to copy each other\u2019s designs, but this does not generate any conflicts. Some of the S\u00e3o Carlos designs have been copied and adapted from other companies, and others are of their own creation. Rob\u00e9rio also emphasized that this practice is on its way to becoming extinct, together with the professionals who are responsible for the cutting out the stencils.
\nFinally, it was observed that this company is only responsible for painting the body of the truck and the wooden mud flaps that make part of it.
