Amateurs
The Amateur group brings together popular manuscripts developed by non-specialist sign painters and which, for the most part, have a rougher finish and a more irregular appearance. This classification was established by Finizola (2010) during the survey Typographical Panorama of Vernacular Lettering: a case study in the city of Recife. The categories are fluid, and the same sign may present characteristics of more than one style.
